no name no borders

2019

Digital print on flag

This flag is the symbol of a logic error for the constitution of a nation without name and without borders. The work questions the stereotyped figure of the migrant, here considered as a glitch (a computer interference) that can hack the system, the relationship with alterity and work ethics. It takes form from the juxtaposition of Speedy Gonzales’s prototype and of Window’s Blue Screen of Death.

No name no borders is inspired by the first episode of Cat-Tails for Two (1953), where Speedy Gonzales appears for the first time. The mouse didn’t present his famous characteristics, but he wore a red t-shirt, had a golden tooth, missed the sombrero hat. His image is less comical and more popular – even though always discriminatory – compared to his famous version.
