Teorie di Topi

2020

Video, colour, sound, 18’05’’

Teorie di Topi is a short film in vertical format about digital memory that analyzes political, economical and social effects of cloud computing and data centers.

The film is freely inspired by the novel Dissipatio H.G. by Guido Morselli: the main character, a journalist we don’t know the face of, finds himself wandering alone in a near future where no inhabitant of the Earth is left, as a result of the mysterious disappearing of humanity. The film is both science-fiction with the protagonist story, both documentary with the interviews.

Through the visit of the places that obsess him, the protagonist has some flashbacks and remembers old interviews that he did with a UI designer, with an IT engineer and with a criminal lawyer that defended migrants protests in court, whose faces are always censored by an Instagram filter. In order to find back himself, the memories will take the journalist to make new connections between the disturbing structures of the data center and of the migrants CPR - Repatriation Permanence Center (Centro di Permanenza per il Rimpatrio).
